Daredevil's Kingpin Actor Campaigns for Spider-Man Crossover
For everything Marvel Studios has done in terms of adding new content to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is still the outstanding issue of the franchise's attempts at serialized storytelling on ABC and Netflix.
Shows like Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil gained quite a big following over their six years on the air, featuring fantastic performances from actors who were truly able to embrace the roles they took on in this version of the Marvel Universe. However, now that Marvel Studios has taken over TV duties for shows like WandaVision and Loki on Disney+, these old shows' status as canon within the MCU is in question.
Pushing this status further into question are rumors that new Phase 4 entries will actually bring some characters from the Netflix shows into play, including Charlie Cox's Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Daredevil's inclusion alongside Spider-Man is still up in the air, one of Cox's castmates has his own hopes of appearing next to the web-slinger.
D'Onofrio Down for Kingpin Meeting Spider-Man
In an interview on the Jake's Takes YouTube channel, Daredevil star Vincent D'Onofrio revealed that he'd love to interact with Tom Holland's Spider-Man if he had the opportunity.
When asked which character he'd love for Kingpin to meet in the MCU, D'Onofrio didn't hesitate when answering with Spider-Man considering the actor's ties back to Daredevil and Punisher:
"It would definitely have to be Spider-Man one day, I’m hoping. We’ll see if they ask me to do it. Kingpin lived in a world of Punisher, Daredevil, and Spider-Man, so that would be the one."
Wilson Fisk and Spider-Man Bound to Meet?
Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk, is widely regarded as one of the best villain performances in a Marvel project to date. Considering the towering villain's ties to Spider-Man, most recently revisited in the Playstation 4 Spider-Man video game, it seems only right that the actor wants to have a go at the web-slinger in a live-action story.
Some time ago, rumors pointed to D'Onofrio being set to reprise his Kingpin role in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, to which he responded quite cryptically on numerous occasions after the fact. With fans regularly expressing their desires to see the Kingpin and Spider-Man in a proper MCU story, these rumors will be something to pay close attention to over the next few weeks.
It will still be some time until all of these rumors are proven true or false in future projects, although D'Onofrio still remains at the top of fans' wishlists for a part in the true MCU.
Hawkeye will begin streaming on Disney+ on November 24. Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to arrive in theaters on December 17.
