Loki Actress Teases Season 2 Plans for Sylvie
Disney+ Day has come and gone, and with it came announcements of new MCU ventures on the streaming platform. The mooring of announcements included tthe first look at brand-new projects like Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
Along with the new and shiny came updates on more from the D+ series fans have already seen. What If...? Season 2 was announced and the WandaVision spin-off Agatha House of Harkness was made official.
One confirmed project that nary got a mention was Loki Season 2. The second season was announced at the end of the Loki finale, but other than that, not much is known about the Trickster and his variant Sylvie's next adventure.
Well, it seems that fans aren't the only people in the dark on Loki S2.
Sylvie's Thoughts on Loki Season 2
In a recent interview with Elle, Loki star Sophia Di Martino revealed that she doesn't "know anything about [Season] 2," but assumes Sylvie will "fundamentally still be the same character:"
"I don’t know anything about series 2. I don’t know how far it’s going to be removed from what happened at the end of series 1. I don’t know if she will have changed again by the time we see her again. I don’t know where she’ll be, what headspace she’ll be in. I assume she’ll fundamentally still be the same character, but the multiverse makes even [that] a little bit complicated. We can meet anyone."
When prodded on when the project would start filming, Di Martino says she was "not sure" but hopes " it’s next year:"
"It obviously won’t be this year, so I hope it’s next year."
Lastly, the actress touched on that she wants Sylvie "to find some peace" during Season 2; however, she doesn't "know how interesting that would be to watch or play:"
"It would be easy for me to say I want her to be happy. I want her to find some peace, but I don’t know how interesting that would be to watch or play.
She’s so fun when she’s pissed-off and out for revenge! She’s such a strong, badass character that’s so empowering to play, and hopefully empowering to watch. I don’t know if I want that to be sorted. So who knows? I mean, it’d be nice to try on some new outfits."
How Much Different Could This Sylvie Be
It is evident in these quotes that Loki Season 2 is being held under lock and key for now. Sophia could be playing dumb here, but it certainly doesn't feel like she is. It seems as though she is being fully transparent in saying she really knows nothing about the project.
The second season was touched on very briefly during Disney+ Day in a press release, so right now, it seems Loki is not front of mind for the Marvel brass.
As for what Ms. Di Martino is actually saying here, audiences should get excited about the perspective of a different Sylvie in Loki Season 2. The character in Season 1 showed a bit of range, but it truly felt like fans were only scratching the surface of whom this character could be.
It's nice to know that the woman who brought Sylvie to life wants to see the best for her character, but she is probably right in saying that this character thrives when she is conniving and looking to get ahead.
Loki himself has been burdened by loss since his introduction to the MCU. Whether self-inflicted or not, the God of Mischief is constantly licking his wounds and trying to think of corners he can cut to fix things and come out on top.
Well, if Sylvie truly is a variant of Tom Hiddleston's Asgardian, then peace and happiness is something that she will only experience in fleeting instances before it is snatched away again.
Season 1 of Loki is available to stream in its entirety now on Disney+.
