Mandalorian Director Spoils New Plot Details for Boba Fett Show
Star Wars' small screen branch continues to expand with the looming arrival of The Book of Boba Fett.
The upcoming Disney+ series will feature the return of Temeura Morrison as the titular bounty hunter alongside Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand. The show is executive produced by The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez, who also directed the Boba Fett-centric episode of the hit Star Wars series.
The Mandalorian Season 2's post-credits scene showed that the bounty hunting pair killed Bib Fortuna and his allies, thus gaining control of Tatooine. Meanwhile, The Book of Boba Fett's first trailer gave fans a preview of its aftermath, telling a story of Fett and Shand's newfound reign in the crime world.
As the show's premiere inches closer, marketing has been ramping up in the past weeks. Now, new details about The Book of Boba Fett's mysterious narrative have been revealed.
The Book of Boba Fett's Plot Details Revealed
The Mandalorian creator and The Book of Boba Fett executive producer Jon Favreau sat down with Empire to talk about the storyline of the Temeura Morrison-led Star Wars series.
Favreau first explained that there is a "power vacuum" in the galaxy due to Jabba the Hutt's death, teasing that this is a wide-open opportunity for Fett:
“There is a power vacuum. because Jabba is gone. Jabba was clearly a very strong and imposing leader, who people were very scared of, and who seemed to rule with an iron fist. You pull somebody like that out of the ecosystem of Tatooine – and Hutt Space in general – and you have the opportunity that’s ripe in the gangster genre.”
The Star Wars producer then discussed Fett's inexperience when it comes to running a criminal syndicate in the galaxy, admitting that he's "not normally a newcomer" in most instances:
“Although Boba Fett is a very experienced bounty hunter, he’s not experienced at running a criminal syndicate or managing forces. He’s not normally a newcomer. He’s an expert as we see him in most areas. But in this case, he’s trying to transition to another position.”
The Book of Boba Fett director Robert Rodriguez also chimed in, teasing that fans will see a "lot more of [Boba Fett]'s character" in the upcoming series:
“We’ll see a lot more of his true character in this season. And you’ll definitely see him have to turn ‘barbarian mode’.”
Alongside the interview, two new stills were also unveiled.
Boba Fett, without his helmet, is seen alongside Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand on an unknown planet (presumably Tatooine), potentially scouting for allies or enemies.
Rodriguez can be seen directing The Book of Boba Fett's action sequences in this new behind-the-scenes still.
