Spider-Man's Tom Holland Breaks Silence on Venom 2 Surprise Cameo
Venom: Let There Be Carnage's ending changed Sony's Marvel universe like never before, marking a major narrative shift for the franchise.
Directed by Andy Serkis, the sequel follows the adventures of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock as he tries to adjust to his newfound life with Venom. The sudden arrival of Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady into their lives made everything complicated because Kasady was infused with another symbiote named Carnage.
Let There Be Carnage delivered a grand showdown between Venom and Carnage, with the former winning over his arch-enemy. After an intense battle, Venom and Eddie went on a well-deserved vacation, but it was ultimately disrupted in the film's post-credits scene.
During the scene, the crime-fighting pair seem to have been transported into the MCU, a world where Tom Holland's Spider-Man resides. The post-credits stinger ended on a cliffhanger, leaving many to wonder what would happen next.
Now, Holland addressed his appearance in Let There Be Carnage in a new interview.
Tom Holland Addresses Venom 2 Cameo
Spider-Man star Tom Holland sat down with Total Film to talk about his recent cameo in the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
When asked if his appearance is an indication of whether or not his Marvel hero will confront Tom Hardy's anti-hero, Holland admitted that he "genuinely don't know" while also praising the lead star of Let There Be Carnage:
"I genuinely don't know. It was really exciting to be a part of that film. Obviously, Tom Hardy is one of the greatest actors in the world. I'm happy to say that he's a lovely bloke. But I haven't really given it very much thought."
Spider-Man vs Venom in the MCU?
Tom Holland's latest comments suggest that he is still keeping Sony's plan for his Marvel character close to the vest, which makes sense since it could potentially ruin the surprises in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Still, many would agree that his excitement about joining Let There Be Carnage is a good sign for things to come.
Interestingly, Tom Hardy previously campaigned for a potential showdown between his Venom and Holland's Spider-Man, saying that he "would do anything to make that happen."
At this stage, many fans have speculated that Hardy's Venom is already part of No Way Home, especially after the confirmation that the symbiote has been transferred to the MCU. However, Marvel and Sony may be saving Venom for a proper MCU introduction.
This means that the character could be featured in No Way Home's post-credits sequence to serve as his launchpad for a potential duel with Holland's MCU hero.
Spider-Man's fate has the potential to be altered entirely in No Way Home, mainly because of the Multiversal complications that will arise from Peter Parker's mistakes in the film. That said, it's reasonable to assume that Venom would likely serve as a big part of Holland's Marvel future.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to premiere in theaters on December 17, 2021.
