New Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Highlights Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy
Spider-Man: No Way Home featured many notable returns, and one of them is Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Garfield made his Marvel debut as the web-slinger in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and reprised the role in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, his superhero stint was cut short after the sequel, with Sony choosing not to push through with The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Despite that, Garfield's return in No Way Home fueled a renewed interest in a potential third movie. Tom Holland previously offered his support if Marvel and Sony wanted to push through with a threequel for Garfield's hero, while fans are also throwing in their own campaign to grab the attention of the studios.
This is on top of the rumors that Garfield might return for multiple projects down the line, not just for a potential threequel to wrap up his trilogy.
Now, amidst the rumors and hype, a special trailer that heavily features Garfield's Spider-Man journey alongside Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy has been revealed.
Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man Shines in New Trailer
Sony Pictures released a brand-new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, highlighting Andrew Garfield's web-crawler from The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
The one-minute video shows a special look at Garfield's history as Spider-Man thus far, featuring notable moments from The Amazing Spider-Man films leading up to his celebrated comeback in No Way Home.
The trailer begins with a clip of the actor's much-talked-about return scene in the threequel before intercutting scenes from The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 and his relationship with Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy:
The trailer also includes a tragic look at Gwen Stacy's death in the sequel, which has been intercut with the scene of Peter 3 saving Zendaya's MJ in No Way Home:
The video ends with a special mention of Garfield's Marvel character, saying "The Amazing Peter # 3." Could this be a hint for a potential third movie for the web-crawler down the line?
Will The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Happen?
It is not coincidental that Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy is the focus of the video, mainly because the character is the emotional anchor of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Although Gwen is already dead in Peter 3's universe, No Way Home's use of the Multiverse cemented the idea that anything is possible.
No Way Home's writers previously explained why characters like Gwen and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane weren't included in the threequel, saying that “[they] went down different roads with different characters that just didn't fit:”
“We went down different roads with different characters that just didn’t fit… we can’t get into the details of that because it might be the kind of thing where they’ll find a way to explore those ideas. So I’d hate to spoil anything because I think we had a lot of fun.”
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Marvel Comics established the fact that there is a universe where Gwen became Spider-Gwen, a superhero who lost her best friend Peter instead. This could serve as the basis for Stone's potential return down the line, thus setting up a bittersweet reunion with Garfield's Spider-Man if it happens.
Meanwhile, this latest trailer offers an emotional look at Garfield's Spider-Man journey, and it is fitting that it is accompanied by the iconic score by Hans Zimmer from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While this video is generally used to promote No Way Home's digital release, many would agree that there are subtle hints about a potential The Amazing Spider-Man 3 project.
Signs indicate that Sony has yet to officially wrap up Garfield's Peter 3, and this could be a positive sign for those seeking a third movie to wrap up the actor's web-slinging trilogy once and for all.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is still playing in some theaters worldwide and is also available to be purchased digitally from major retailers.
