Shazam 2 Director Responds To Henry Cavill Superman Rumors
Shazam: Fury of the Gods continues to carry forward with the success of the first film, furthering the journey of the lightning-themed hero with leading stars Zachary Levi and Asher Angel in tow.
The Shazam! sequel supposedly begins filming soon according to one of the film's stars, which may have been fast-tracked due to several of the child actors quickly growing up. Another of the film's actors, Ross Butler, also seems to be signaling an imminent start date for the production, teasing the sequel on his social media.
Shazam 2 will bring back David F. Sandberg in the director's chair, who says the film's villains will be "unexpected." A recent rumor suggests a trio of evil sisters will headline the film, with casting supposedly still underway. Another rumbling suggested that Henry Cavill could be reprising his role as Superman, remedying his faux cameo at the end of the first film.
The Shazam! director has now voiced his opinion on the circling rumors about the project's casting, while giving some insight into the production of the first film...
SHAZAM DIRECTOR ADDRESSES RUMORS
Shazam: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg responded via Twitter to casting rumors as a whole for his upcoming DC film.
While not pointing to a specific rumor (but likely alluding to the possible Henry Cavill/Superman return), Sandberg told fans that they "can’t be sure about anything until it’s happened."
To further elaborate, the Shazam director revealed that Henry Cavill was intended to reprise his role as Superman in the first film, which could have led to misinformation if scoopers had caught wind of the news.
The full tweet can be seen below:
Not going to comment on casting rumors for several reasons. One being you can’t be sure about anything until it’s happened. Halfway through shooting Shazam the plan was still for Cavill to be in it. Scoopers could have scooped that and been right at the time but wrong in the end.

NO SUPERMAN IN ZACHARY LEVI SEQUEL?
Essentially David F. Sandberg hopes to dissuade fans from putting too much stock into rumors, not wanting them to get their hopes up for information that may not be accurate.
Though many leaks and scoops turn out to be correct, it is always best to take purported information with a grain of salt. The rumor about an evil trio of sisters may or may not be factual now, but could very well change as production continues and Sandberg makes alterations to the film. The same could be said for a Henry Cavill appearance in the Shazam sequel, but fans will just have to wait and see until the film releases.
The confirmation that Cavill was intended to star in the first Shazam! is interesting though, especially given that the production had to make some sacrifices in order to get the Man of Steel into the final cut of the film. It remains to be seen if Cavill could return, but it would certainly be a fun team-up to see play out on screen.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods is set to release in theaters on June 2, 2023.
