Falcon and Winter Soldier: Alternate Version of Bucky's Nightmare Scene Revealed

Marvel Studios is known for being one of the best companies in the movie industry in terms of action and adventure, which is exactly what came in high doses during the Disney+ streaming run for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. With a higher production budget than nearly any TV show in history, the MCU pulled no punches making sure Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan's solo series delivered the same quality and excitement as any MCU movie before it.

While the season finale held more action sequences than any before it, every entry leading up to the end did its part to bring plot points that both added to the story and brought a level of thrilling visuals for fans. This came as early as Episode 1, in which the first half showcased Sam Wilson rescuing a hostage from the LAF while also taking a trip down memory lane to highlight one of Bucky's forced Winter Soldier missions as well.

As it turns out, that flashback wasn't the only option for how to introduce the Winter Soldier into his series...

ANOTHER BUCKY NIGHTMARE SEQUENCE

Stunt coordinator Dave Macomber took to Instagram to share a video showcasing an alternate version of Bucky Barnes' nightmare flashback scene from Episode 1 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This scene was changed due to production having to move away from Puerto Rico during the filming process.

In this scene, Bucky was on his way to kill a target in an undisclosed castle as a part of an attempted coup. While it's unclear what other details would have brought this scene together, it's clear that it was intended to have more of a political spin.

Macomber's caption can be read in full below, highlighting the full extent of the original take:

Once upon a time, before earthquakes and natural disasters aborted production going to Puerto Rico, there was a version of Bucky’s Nightmare from episode 1 where The Winter Soldier was on his way to kill a target in a castle at the center of a coup attempt.

A SLIGHT CHANGE IN PACE

The final cut of Episode 1 had Bucky infiltrating a hotel as the Winter Soldier on an assassination mission, which included a short action sequence of Bucky taking out some nearby people before shooting RJ, Yori Nakajima's son, for having witnessed the ordeal. Things may not have worked out for this version due to the conflict the production team encountered, but they did a fantastic job of adjusting to highlight Barnes' Winter Soldier days as he arrived at the Disney+ scene.

This is just one of many changes Marvel's team had to make due to the ever-fluctuating state of affairs with the worldwide pandemic. While details haven't surfaced on what was actually switched around, it's clear how tough the challenge was to make drastic turns during the production process.

In the end, this turned out to be one of numerous excellent action sequences in the MCU's second Disney+ outing. Now that the teams behind the movies and Disney+ are more settled into everything planned, fans should be excited for things to get even better going forward.

All six episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are available to stream on Disney+
