Why Falcon and Winter Soldier's Director Wants To Return For Captain America 4 Movie
Marvel Studios officially completed its early run on Disney+ with the final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiering recently, bringing rave reviews across the board. The action was thrilling, the drama helped push the narrative to new heights, and fans are still raving about Marvel's accomplishments in the costume department for Sam Wilson.
This episode seemed to be only the beginning of the excitement too, with news coming shortly after its release that Marvel is actively developing a fourth Captain America movie. The film's script will be written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman with help from staff writer Dalon Musson, although no other details are known about the story, the cast, or the rest of the crew yet.
One of those openings may change, however, if another leading personality from Marvel's last Disney+ show has anything to say about it...
KARI SKOGLAND OPEN TO CAPTAIN AMERICA 4
In an interview with CinemaBlend, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland revealed that she is open to working with Marvel Studios again in the future.
While this could be something as little as "film[ing] the phone book," Skogland commented on how she has "a special place in [her] heart" for actors like Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, and Daniel Brühl in their Disney+ show.
Should Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige give her a phone call for her services again, "[she] would answer it:"
"I think if Marvel called me to do anything, if they called me to film the phone book, I would do it. … The Marvel characters are all very, very rich. I’ve become friends with Anthony and Sebastian, and I really enjoyed working with them. And Emily and Daniel Bruhl. I mean, I’ve worked with them for a couple of years, so of course, I have a special place in my heart. But as I said, if Kevin (Feige) picked up the phone, I would answer it."
SKOGLAND WELCOMES ANOTHER CHANCE WITH MARVEL
Director Kari Skogland has regularly praised Marvel for the work it puts in with its vast lore of comic book characters, putting her heart and soul into bringing the best project possible with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. It seems safe to say that she did a stellar job continuing the MCU's narrative after Avengers: Endgame, bringing character development for every key player alongside the top-notch action for which the franchise is known best.
It's still unclear whether the Disney+ series will earn a second season with the newly announced feature film reportedly set in stone, but it's clear that Sam Wilson's journey as Captain America will live on outside the Avengers team-up outings.
Now that Skogland has her first MCU project under her belt, the opportunity should be there for her to return to the franchise at some point in the future. This is quickly becoming a continuing trend within Phase 4 of the MCU after WandaVision Matt Shakman echoed these same sentiments when his outing with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany came to a close in March.
With no set timetable for Captain America 4, Skogland should be seen as one of the best available options when Marvel goes searching for the film's director.
All episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are streaming now on Disney+.
