Star Wars: Rogue One's Disney+ Spin-off Receives Promising Update From Cassian Andor Star
With all the projects that Marvel fans are getting, it's hard not to be a little jealous when it comes to the current output of Star Wars stories. While it may not match what the MCU has, viewers have gotten to enjoy The Bad Batch and Star Wars Visions. When it comes to live-action stories, well, those are still a few months out.
Book of Boba Fett is set to premiere sometime later this year in place of Mando's third season—though, many likely won't mind much, as the return of everyone's favorite bounty hunter was a highlight of last year; so the more, the merrier.
After that show, however, everything should start ramping up when it comes to the many projects Star Wars has down the pipe. Projects such as Obi-Won, or The Mandalorian's third season, or the immensely intriguing project The Acolyte, which is set to start production in London next February.
One of the first Star Wars shows that fans are likely to get next year is Andor, which features the return of Diego Luna's character from Rogue One. Not much is known about the show, but the star himself seems very confident about what everyone on the team was able to pull off.
Andor Has Finished Production
During press for his upcoming Amazon Prime series Pan Y Circo, Diego Luna teased what fans can expect in his upcoming Star Wars Disney+ show Andor.
He immediately revealed that fans will "definitely see familiar faces," and that "this project is like no other:"
“You’ll definitely see familiar faces... I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Stars Wars: Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending.”
As everyone knows, Star Wars: Rogue One ended with the entire cast of the film dying—Cassian Andor's fate is sealed. Luna went on, saying that "[they're] done with the shooting now:"
“To be honest, it’s been such a blessing to do this job and to do it under these circumstances... “I had the chance to work with a team that I couldn’t be more proud of and admire more. It’s a hard-core moment to be out there shooting, and we were really lucky. We’re done with the shooting now and getting it ready for audiences to see it.”
Luna admitted that "[he] can't say much," but Andor is "something that [he] really wanted to do" which has made him "more than happy:"
"While I can’t say much, what I can tell you is that the experience was literally a transformation for me. It’s something that I really wanted to do and that I thought I was not going to be able to do. I’m more than happy.”
He continued, pivoting to the top of representation, and how audiences "have a voice... [they] have power:"
“Audiences can be heard; we have to send a message... We want to see our stories out there, we want to see and feel represented. We want to connect with those characters and those stories we see in film and all platforms. We have a voice as audiences, and we have power. We have to send the right message when you buy a movie ticket or when you click on the various platforms, you’re sending a message. And when you don’t, you’re also sending a message. So, let’s be responsible because we can transform things and make sure we are represented more and represented better on screen.”
Familiar Faces Abound
Luna teases the many familiar faces that fans will see, but it's hard not to wonder how many of them will be a surprise. After all, there's a long list of returning characters that have already been reported as appearing.
Stars such as Ben Mendelsohn, and Forest Whitaker, are both rumored to return to the fray. There are plenty of new faces as well, with actors Alex Lawther and Robert Emms joining the world of Andor.
While many aren't very excited for Andor Cassian's Disney+ adventure, Diego Luna's confidence is hard to ignore. Maybe the project will be a surprise hit, much like how Rogue One was for many. Only time will tell what the fate of Andor will be.
