Star Wars: Disney Announces When Rogue One Spin-off, Andor, Will Premiere

Andor Disney Plus

The future of Star Wars is currently brighter than it has ever been thanks to projects such as The MandalorianAhsoka, and Andor.

Disney and Lucasfilm have opted to take the franchise mostly in the direction of Disney+, with a massive slate of episodic series set to release on the platform in the coming years.

The Book of Boba Fett is next up on the list of upcoming shows, but 2022 could very well be the biggest year to date with KenobiThe Mandalorian season 3, and Andor all lined up to hit the streaming service during the calendar year.

Due to the hype surrounding the return of Ewan McGregor in Kenobi and the long-awaited return of The MandalorianAndor has been the underdog of the three series. However, with the show running 12 episodes and leading into one of the most beloved movies that has been released since Disney took over the franchise, fans are certainly in for a treat.

Diego Luna, who will be in the lead role portraying Rebel spy Cassian Andor, recently revealed that the series officially wrapped up filming. Not much else has been revealed to the public regarding the project, but audiences will have something to really be excited about as the release window for the show has now been officially released.

Star Wars: Andor to Release on Disney+ in Summer 2022

Via journalist Clayton Sandell on Twitter, Disney CFO Christine McCarthy announced during the company's Q4 earnings call that the upcoming Star Wars: Andor series will be officially released "in the 4th quarter of 2022," meaning that the project will debut sometime between July and September.

Andor will follow Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and his involvement with the Rebel Alliance prior to the events of Rogue One.

Andor Helps Form the Disney+ Schedule

Now that the official window for Andor has been revealed, it is a little easier to predict when the other Star Wars projects of 2022 will be released. With Andor filling the summer release slot, Disney has both the beginning and end of 2022 to debut Kenobi and season 3 of The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian just recently began filming, so it is safe to say that the upcoming season will not be ready for the beginning of the year. Also, The Book of Boba Fett will be running until nearly the end of February, so Disney will likely want to take a break from the Mando-Verse storyline until the end of the year.

Assuming that The Mandalorian will follow its normal format and premiere in November-December, that leaves the Spring window open for Kenobi. May 4, also known as Star Wars Day, falls on a Wednesday in 2022, and most fans can agree that there is not a more perfect date for Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to make their on-screen returns to the franchise.

No matter when all of 2022's Star Wars projects come out, the year will be packed with content from start to finish, and fans will finally be able to experience a full year in a galaxy far, far away.
